Follow up review and extreme disappointment

I raved about this lock when a first bought it a couple months ago, but ran into a serious problem when the key got jammed in the lock. It's been stuck there every since. about people having their bikes "locked" to random places across the city because of the same issue. I wish I had researched better as I would never have bought a Kryptonite lock. I submitted a ticket to Kryptonite for help and it's been almost four weeks without a response. For a near $200 lock, I expected A LOT BETTER. I bought an ABUS the next day; made and manufactured in Germany and also comes with a lifetime warranty. The key mechanism is much sturdier, which you could tell from the very first use and not subject to Kryptonite's shoddy design. Read Less

I feel secure and protected with it

The shackle is really thick. The LS is long enough to lock rad power bike in my apartment bike room. Extremely heavy duty bike lock.

Fantastic lock with one caveat...

This is a great lock if you live in the city and are looking for something extra sturdy. It also comes with a insurance policy of up to $4,000 in the event that it gets stolen (register online within 30 days of purchase). k doesn't include a mounting bracket to attach to your bike. You have to purchase Kryptonite's Transit H-bar separately which can only be attached to your handlebars. The smaller versions of this lock include the mounting bracket (and can be be mounted in more conventional spots), so if you can make due with the smaller lock, it's probably a better way to go. Best peace of mind money can buy

Purchased this lock to safely park my bike in the city, sometimes for a few hours. Paired with a few looped cables (to secure the front wheel and my saddle), I generally can secure the frame and rear wheel to the bike rack without much issue. lightly less sturdy and secure than a really tight one (like the "New York Fahgettaboudit"), those locks aren't usually long enough for me to loop in my bike frame, the rear wheel and the available rack. This thing is incredibly well built and can withstand just about anything a bad guy can throw at it. When registered through the company website, you are also eligible for their anti-theft insurance where they'll basically cut you a check if your bike gets stolen while secured with the lock. Additionally, registering your lock will allow them to send you keys in case you run out (it comes with 3, if you lose 3 keys, security probably isn't your strong suit). Keep in mind that this thing is incredibly heavy (roughly 5 lbs), doesn't come with a mounting system to attach it to your frame and isn't compatible with one. You'll have to lug this the old fashion way. With bike theft being a serious problem in Montreal, I would only ever use my 50$ beater bike to commute but with this bad boy, I have found the confidence to bring my hybrid bike into the city and manage not to worry too much about it when I'm seated at a restaurant or watching the football game.
