A first class functional boot

As a hiker of over 60 years experience I like a traditional hiking boot, i.e. one with one piece full grain leather upper and a soft leather lining, rather than the modern multiple stitched seam, so-called “high-tech” boots whose design seems to be more a matter of style rather than function. LTR boots.
They are beautiful boots (as one might expect from an Italian footwear manufacturer) and were a comfy fit right out of the box. They arrived in the mail yesterday and today I tried them out for the first time on an alpine hike, in snow, on Hudson Bay Mountain in northern BC. I am happy to report that they met my expectations in every respect. They are light weight, very comfortable and had a good grip on snow covered rock. It remains to be seen how durable they will be, but I am sure they will be at least as good, or better, than my Lowa Renegade GTX boots, which cost $150 more and which fell apart after 4 years with seams giving way and the heels disintegrating. Short break in

Runs true to size (compared to my Saucony's). Just a few kilometers to getting then feeling really comfy.

Happy enough to order a second pair

This is my second pair of AKU Tribute II LTR boots, so you might gather from that that I do like them! s and fabric linings which quickly wears out.
The first pair lasted me 4 years of vigorous hiking and the only reason I need to replace them is that the heels have worn down (see photo). This is probably as much due to my gait (dragging my heels!) as to a deficiency with the boot. The uppers are still in perfect condition and they still fit like a glove, as they did right out of the box. The sizing is generous, so no need to order a wide fitting.
If I were to fault them at all it would be on the sole. It seems a pity to put a light sole on a such a first class leather upper. However, that is no doubt to keep the boots light weight, which I also appreciate.
I might mention that my preferred hiking boots before I found these AKU boots were Lowa Renegade GTX boots, which cost $150 more. They also lasted 4 years, but then fell apart with seams giving way and the heels also disintegrating - hence my preference for one piece leather uppers.
I definitely recommend them.
As a footnote, since ordering my new boots I have found a local bootmaker who can replace the heels on the old boots for $90. So I now have two pairs; one for Sunday best and the other for grungy hikes! Read Less

Very nice

Traditional leather boot design but a much faster break in time. The last fits my narrow heel and wide fore-foot nicely. Love the lack of Gore-Tex.

fits right out of the box!

amazingly comfortable boot. I struggled to replace an old pair of Vasque boots that were great, but the new ones seem narrower and gave blisters over a long hike.
These are super comfortable and fit right out of the box, no hot spots.
leather interiors very soft - definitely recommend

The men’s TRIBUTE II LTR hiking boot provides tough durability and comfort on hills and mid-mountain hikes in damp, muddy, or dry conditions. A Vibram Sendera outsole provides the right amount of traction. The Injected PU midsole is light and cushioned, and the footbed is removable EVA. Full-grain leather makes up the lining. A TPU medium stiff lasting board gives flexibility and protection, and the 2mm full-grain leather upper provides comfort over varied conditions.
