The fast lacing system is Salomon standard and works well, although the "garage" can be a little struggle to access with the laces cinched. It is a mystery for me though why Samolon decided to reduce the number of lace eyelets (loops actually) from 5 in Sense 8 to 4 in Cross which makes their fit significantly less glove-like. The sole of Cross feels thicker which equals to more protection but less trail feel. The drop of both these shoes is claimed to be the same, 4 mm, and I would say that is probably correct. Lugs of Cross soles are deeper, better for traction in muddy terrain but their shape gives me sort of a "cheap" feel. (This is probably just me because they reminds me of the cheap soccer shoes of my childhood.) Wonder if deeper (taller?) lugs would make the shoe feel less stable on smooth rock. The upper material of Cross feels more sturdy and hopefully more durable. It breathes well. I love the gaiters as I always seem to end up with trail debris inside of my running shoes. Generally I am quite happy with the S-Lab Cross and would rate them about 3.75 stars if that was possible.
