Most of the GoreTex replacements are not teflon, like GoreTex is, but a urethane treated fabric that works well for awhile but fails much sooner, especially in hot, humid conditions, like if you sweat. If you leave a GoreTex Jacket in the trunk of your car, it will be fine forever. Urethane based products will fail pretty soon, usually at and around the hood. Every time I tried an alternative, I was disappointed. No surprise that companies will not tell you what their waterproof breathable fabric is. Trade secret, blah, blah.
