Until February 2 2025, Alti Fest will offer the savings you’ve been dreaming of on our season’s premium products – jackets, boots, Ski & Snowboard gear, hiking & running equipment, and much more! Whatever your passion, we have what you need.

Alti Fest is also your chance to sign up for an Altitude Sports Membership – on sale for $20! You can take full advantage of all the impressive membership perks, including free returns in Canada and reduced shipping fees. Even better, during Alti Fest, Members’ discounts are DOUBLED – an extra 10% on almost all items (normally only 5%), including those already on sale.

Q:When does Alti Fest begin?

A: Alti Fest has begun and will end on February 2 2025.

Q: Are the discounts real or do you boost the MSRP so the prices look like unbelievable discounts?

A:The discounts are most certainly real. Our ‘regular’ prices are established based on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. They are the same year-round, and it is only our discount that varies. For Alti Fest, save up to 50% off your top styles and gear.

Q:What if I buy something and then the price drops a few days later?

A: We have an altitude Sports price matching policy that covers a period of 15 days after your purchase. Visit our price policy page for all the details.

Q: What brands will be discounted?

A:During Alti Fest you can find sales on brands that are rarely discounted! Check out our Sales Page for more info.

Q:Are sales final?

A: Altitude Sports has a return policy so flexible, we encourage you to purchase multiple sizes of a product if you’re unsure of your size, because availability will be limited once Alti Fest is over. By doing this, you increase the chance of finding your perfect fit. Our returns are free and easy for Altitude Sports Lifetime Members.

Q: Did I see this product on The Last Hunt last week?

A: For Alti Fest, we have indeed brought some stock over from The Last Hunt, so now is the perfect chance to shop everything in one place.

Q: What if the products I buy don’t fit?

A: Don’t worry! All you need to do is follow the simple steps listed in our return policy. Please make sure you return the purchased products in perfect condition, with the tags and any packaging (ex: shoe boxes, clothing hangers, etc.). Refunds will usually be made within a period of 5 business days after the returned product has been received and processed.

Q: What if I still have questions about a product after reading the product description?

A: Altitude Sports is proud to have a devoted customer service team available seven days a week to help provide you with the best online shopping experience possible. If you have further questions, our customer agents can be contacted by phone, email, contact form, and live chat.

Whether you’re seeking a seasonal outdoor adventure, a weekend getaway with friends, or a frustrated writer looking for solitary retreat (shameless admission by yours truly), cottage getaways have a curative magic about them.

The post Cottage Weekend Packing List appeared first on Altitude Sports.

]]>

The beauty of cottages is that they offer a different experience with each season. A summer cottage promises cool dips in sparkling lakes, sizzling burgers on a hot barbecue with our families, and the chance to observe wildlife. Winter transforms the landscape into a wonderland of snow and ice, perfect for ice fishing, skating, backcountry skiing, or snowshoeing. We can make festive escapes and celebrate the holidays or New Year’s Eve at the cottage. After a long semester of studies, cottages can also be a popular destination for students to decompress during Spring Break. Regardless of the plans, the question remains: “What should I pack?

What Clothing Should You Bring?

Let’s first break it down by season, and then by activity:

Seasons:

 • Spring provides the perfect weather for layering – choose base layers for movement and proper insulation or opt for a simple shirt and sweater combination if the weather is mild. We also recommend preparing for muddier conditions. Be sure to pack waterproof boots and other weather-resistant clothing such as rain jackets, windbreakers, or vests.
 • Summers are hot and humid. It’s best to pack lightweight clothes with moisture-wicking and breathing properties to stay cool and comfortable. Don’t forget hats to keep the sun off your head. For those cooler summer nights, bring long-sleeved shirts or long pants to keep away the bugs.
 • Fall weather can vary significantly, with some days reaching the twenties and others plummeting close to zero degrees Celsius. Remember, cottages nestled in nature usually experience cooler climates, especially if they’re lakeside or in mountainous areas. You’ll want to pack layers here, much like you would for spring, as both fall and spring have varying weather.
 • For winter, pack a reliable down parka or winter coat. Anything with GORE-TEX is a safe bet, especially for our boots or jackets, well-insulated hats and mittens, additional layers, and your favourite sweater or sweatpants for lounging. Embrace comfortable wear too, as winter cottages are synonymous with hot cocoa, fires, and cozy ambiances.

Activities:

 • Swimming & Watersports: For summer cottagers, swimsuits are a must. Among watersports like swimming, paddleboarding, canoeing, or kayaking, nothing beats the peace of drifting on a lake that mirrors a clear blue sky. Swimsuits aren’t just for summer, though. Winter doesn’t have to stop you from enjoying a hot tub if your cottage has one.
 • Hiking: An all-season favourite. Many cottages offer easy access to nearby trails, ideal for exploration. Pack a sturdy daypack with snacks, water, a first-aid kit, trekking poles, and any other essentials. Durable hiking shoes or boots are also an asset if you have them. If you’re hiking in the winter months, don’t forget to include some crampons.
 • Skiing & snowboarding: Whether you’re hitting the slopes or exploring the backcountry, ski cottages provide the perfect base. Pack your skis, snowboard, boots, goggles, helmet, and safety gear. To fully enjoy the après-ski, bring some comfortable casual clothes to change into.
 • Running: Some cottager goers might want to keep up with their active routines. And besides, it’s even more reason to treat ourselves later. Regardless of your running route, road, or trail, bring suitable running gear.
 • Cycling: Cycling is a great way to explore the landscape surrounding your cottage. Fat biking has also seen an increase in popularity in recent months.

Sports Safety in Remote Areas: Your safety is essential, no matter where you are. Cottages can have poor reception or no internet. Share your location with someone and try to bring friends along. Pay close attention to your surroundings. Leave the headphones at home if you’re heading out into the woods. Bring sprays if you’re in bear country. Always check the weather. If you’re road running, remember country roads are often narrow, winding, and lack pedestrian paths, so be extra cautious of traffic.

Personal Care & Toiletries

Brand Name | Product Type

Price: 0.00$

You should never leave the house for a prolonged period without packing some basic hygienic products into a trusty hygiene kit.

Price: 0.00$

Here are some important toiletries to keep in mind for your trip:

 • Toothbrush & toothpaste
 • Sunscreen and SPF lip balm for sun protection.
 • Bug repellents. DEET repellents are the best for tick prevention.
 • Shampoos & body wash
 • Deodorant
 • Hand soap
 • First aid kit (tweezers, scissors, gauze, band-aids, disinfectant wipes)
 • Wet wipes
 • Tissues
 • Hand sanitizer

Make a more complete list to make sure you have everything you need. A lot of these are available just about anywhere. Look for carry-on sized products at your local pharmacy. Gas stations sometimes offer a small selection of toiletries and hygiene products. On the occasion you’ve forgotten something, why not treat it as a chance to visit some of the nearby townships?

Food & Kitchen Supplies

Where and how long you’re staying will factor into your food choices. More rustic cottages offer little more than a few rusty pots and pans and half-empty tea boxes. Others, however, might have their cabinets brimming with culinary delights and complimentary beverages.

If your cottage is bare bones, here’s what you’ll want to consider:

 • Canned foods
 • Dry meals
 • Grains
 • Cooking oils and spices
 • Sweet or salty treats

To keep up your energy for activities, pack a balance of protein, carbs, and fats. Some examples of foods to bring include:

 • Pancake mix (just need water)
 • Granola bars, protein bars, or trail mixes to bring on the trails as snacks
 • Bread
 • Jams, peanut butter, and honey for some delicious sandwiches
 • Chocolate bars
 • Canned soups or meats
 • Rice or cereals
 • Crackers or corn chips

Don’t hesitate to bring coolers and camp kitchen supplies to pack dairy, eggs, vegetables, or frozen meats for more well-rounded meals if you can. If your cottage has modern kitchen furnishings, all the better.

Entertainment & Leisure Items

If being stir-crazy drove you out to the woods, make sure you’re not just trading it in for cabin fever. Bring fun things to do, whether you’re alone or with friends. Disconnecting doesn’t require totally unplugging—we all have our creature comforts.

 • Board games and puzzles are always a great way to pass the time. Some cottages may already have some.
 • Playing cards have been a staple time-killer since the ninth century.
 • Cottages may have televisions and movies for you.
 • Pre-download your favourite movies or shows on your laptops or tablets to wind down or, if you’re the frustrated writer, to work on your novel.
 • Some of us bookworms have a shame pile of unread books, or maybe a DNF (“Did not finish”) book that we might give another chance to. A cottage is a perfect place to rekindle a love of literature.
 • Portable speakers: No cottage with friends is complete without a shared playlist for the occasion.
 • Bring art supplies like watercolours, knitting needles, yarn, or embroidery kits for other arts & crafts.
 • Your phone: While it’s important to disconnect from the world, our phones should be readily available for emergencies, to use as a map, or a GPS, and look up popular hot spots in town during your stay.

Miscellaneous Items

Now that your bags are ready, it’s time to double-check you have everything you need for your cottage weekend. Pack these additional must-haves for your trip:

 • Portable batteries are a great backup to have if your cottage is powerless or when your friend refuses you the USB port in the car.
 • Chargers.
 • Cottages may not have enough towels. It’s best to bring a couple of extras, just in case.
 • Blankets and pillows can be used in case there’s a lack of bedding at the cottage. You can also consider bringing a sleeping bag and an inflatable mattress.
 • Headlamp, flashlight, or lighting: Yes, our phones have them, but a spare doesn’t hurt to have.
 • Batteries: AA or AAA depending on your need for them for your lights or other tech.
 • Resealable or reusable bags: Great for organizing our things in our packs and to keep litter out of nature.
 • Multi-tool: Handy for opening cans, bottles or making quick repairs.
 • Journal: Inspire yourself!
 • Folding chairs: In case of limited seating.
 • Waterproof matches, lighters, and firestarters: Always make sure you’re allowed to make a fire, especially during the summer months.

Ready To Move Into Your New (Temporary) Home?

Before leaving, give your packing list a careful review to ensure you have everything you need. Practice good safety: always leave a note, tell a family member or a friend where you’re going if you’re going alone, or better yet, plan a getaway with friends. Keep yourself entertained with activities and ways to relax. A cottage is a place where we can let go of stress and find peace from our busy lives, no matter the season. Savour it, and have a happy retreat!

What are the different types of Base Layers?

Base layers can be made from several different materials that influence their durability, warmth and comfort.

Synthetic base layers

Synthetic base layers are usually made from polyester or nylon. These durable materials can be found in various outdoor pieces of equipment, including tents. With synthetic materials, you get more durability in extreme conditions.

Merino wool base layers

In a lot of ways, merino wool is the miracle wool. Not only are merino wool base layers soft to the touch, making them easy to wear against the skin, but the wool also helps absorb body odour. What you get is a soft base layer that smells neutral, even after a long day of winter sports.

Blended base layers

Blended base layers take the best of synthetic materials and merino wool and combine them. Most base layers, unless they are 100% polyester, nylon or merino wool, will blend materials to utilize their best qualities. Blended base layers also commonly have elastane (better known as spandex) to increase their elasticity.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING BASE LAYERS

Before jumping into a purchase, consider these factors so you can choose the best option for your winter adventures.

Climate and weather conditions

If you are in a very cold place that experiences a lot of extreme temperatures, you want thicker materials to help you retain body heat. A longer neck sleeve, 2 layers of fabric and better warmth retention are important for cold weather.

For warmer days, consider lightweight layers with a high degree of breathability and quick-dry technology. After all, skiing and riding are intense, high-output activities that can make you sweat.

Material and fabric technology

Merino wool is more comfortable in a base layer, while polyester is more durable. If there is some elasticity from spandex the base layer can fit snugly against your body shape. Proprietary technology (like Lifa for Hely Hansen) for moisture management is also quite nice, along with flat-seams to reduce itch.

Moisture-wicking capabilities

All of the selections here have some form of moisture-wicking. Wicking is the ability of a fabric to pull moisture away from your skin so it doesn’t freeze or cool against you. Without this, any wet shirt that touches you will drop your body temperature.

Quick drying and moisture-wicking are similar but not the same thing. Quick drying means a piece of clothing that doesn’t stay wet for long. For spring skiing, I’d recommend a lighter layer with good moisture management.

Fit and comfort

Form-fitting means the base layer has some spandex, so it will be nice and snug. A relaxed fit is the opposite, where it fits loosely but may feel less restrictive. And again, fabric type matters for comfort with wool & especially merino winning against polyester.

Layering system

The base layer is only the first of several layers you need to defend against winter cold. For a seamless system, pair base layers with an insulating layer (fleece or down if it’s really cold) and wrap it up with a waterproof & windproof outer layer. Soft shells should not be worn on the outside unless the temperature is warmer and there isn’t any wind.

You should also consider leg-focused base layers for ski adventures. Start with underwear, then long johns, and wrap it up in a thicker pair of ski or snowboard pants.

Conclusion

In the world of ski base layers, it’s best to focus your search the following way. Do I want the most comfortable item or something with more durability? Do I want to wear it out after skiing? How cold is it where I am? How warm will it get? Set yourself up for success by matching the likeliest environment to your fashion and comfort styles. With hundreds of offerings available, Altitude Sports is the best way to find winter base layers. Between both our women’s and men’s selections, you should have no trouble finding what you need.

With Helly Hansen, an expert in performance outdoor gear, we’re here to teach you how to repair your hardshells and jackets, so you can continue to use them for years to come.

Understanding the Damage

It’s always good practice to evaluate the damage and its implications for your specific jacket, whether it’s a winter jacket, puffer, or breathable shell, before starting any repairs. Try to assess the size, location, and how your ripped jacket has been affected before making a final decision to replace it.

Small Cuts or Punctures: These small perforations or rips tend to happen when our hiking shells get snagged on a branch or thorn in the woods, or when we take a bit of a tumble. Either way, these micro accidents happen often enough, but are fairly easy to repair using simple patchwork.

Seam Splits: Seam splits are more of a nuisance. It happens when the joining fabric pieces of your jacket rip apart. Seam splits will typically require sewing, depending on the severity of the tear.

Large Rips: Larger rips can occur if smaller tears are untreated and left to worsen overtime. They can also be the result of more aggressive snags and falls while backcountry skiing, for example. However, these can be patched easily too.

Jacket Materials:

Outdoor performance jackets, especially skiing shells like Helly Hansen’s, feature heavy-duty technology ranging from down to unique innovations like Helly Hansen’s own HELLY TECH® waterproof and breathable system. Whether you have a down jacket or a synthetic one, the repair methods are often similar. How you both treat and mend these can differentiate. The great news is that it doesn’t really matter what kind of jacket you have – nylon, polyester, down, GORE-TEX, or even waxed – the repair method to the damage is often the same, with only slight variations depending on the severity.

When to Repair vs. Replace:

It can happen that the damage is too extensive, in which case, it might be time to part ways. Ultimately, it’s up to you to make the final decision, but hopefully, you’ve given it your best effort first. We believe that unless the jacket is falling apart into pieces or refuses to be anything other than a sponge for the rain and snow, it might be time to swap it out for a new one. But holes, rips, and tears in our coats, or a little wetting out in our rain jackets are all curable ailments. So, if you’re ready and willing, the next section will guide you through giving your jacket a second life, restoring it to its full functionality.

Some other useful tools you may want to have beside you are:

 • Scissors
 • Clean cloth or antiseptic towelette

There are also some other tools that will come in later in this blog for re-waterproofing your shell coat after patching the holes or tears.

Patch Repairing for Different Types of Damages

Before you do anything, make sure to carefully read the instructions written on the packaging of your repair kit. Different kits require different application methods. Some adhesives need to be set with the help of an iron, while others, like the Helly Hansen repair kit in this example, require only pressure from our hands. While duct tape can be used for emergency repairs, it is not recommended for long-term fixes as it may lead to further damage.

Step #1: Clean the area of your shell jacket using a clean cloth, or you may also use an antiseptic towelette to clean the torn or perforated area. If there’s fraying or loose threads, trim them.

clean_the_rip

Step #2: Take a patch out with rounded corners from the repair kit. Cut the patch to the appropriate size of the tear. It should overlap the torn area about half an inch on all sides. Before placing the patch, make sure to join the torn edges together.

Cut_repair_Patch

Step #3: Remove the sticker at the back of the adhesive patch and apply it to the torn area.

Step #4: Smooth out the edges by applying pressure using a circular motion from the centre outward using your hands. Let the adhesion cure for a full 24 hours to reach full strength.

Smooth_the_patch

Step #5 (optional but recommended): You can choose to only apply a patch to the front facing side of the tear, but you’ll get a better quality patchwork by adding a second layer on the inside. This will help add more weatherproofing as well. To do so, simply turn the jacket inside out, and repeat the same process.

Other types of repair methods might involve sewing, ironing (if a specific patch you’re using requires a heat application), or even glue. Whichever method you need, you should prepare accordingly. There could even be a mix of different methods. It all depends on the affected area of your torn jacket.

Waterproofing Your Jacket Post-Repair

Once you’ve successfully patched up your shell jacket, it’s time to make it as durable and performative as it was when you first received it. We strongly recommend doing this next part after patching, otherwise it’s a little like forgetting to tighten the screws on an assembly.

What makes Helly Hansen an authority on performance jackets isn’t just through their products like their Odin Jackets, but also because of their deep understanding of the technology they use. They offer various solutions, guides, and other how-tos to ensure that you get a generation’s worth of use from each and every one of their coats. After all, a Helly Hansen jacket is of premium quality, but like anything in this world, just needs to be shown a little TLC from time to time.

The Odin jacket is a 3-layer shell praised by professional athletes. Featuring Helly Tech® and LIFA INFINITY™ technologies, this lightweight jacket is designed to deliver exceptional breathability and waterproof performance.

When it comes to most outdoor waterproof-breathable shells, they’re often manufactured with a thin coating of what’s called Durable Water Repellent (DWR). It’s this that allows water to bead off. Overtime, however, this coating wears away. Whether your jacket has gotten dirty from dirt or sweat, or too much abrasion from nature that involves sap or grime, food residue, other liquids, and the usual wear and tear, DWR loses its potency.

You can see in the image below the difference between reduced DWR effectiveness and functional DWR.

DWR_difference

There are a couple of ways to reapply DWR to your jacket and both are fairly simple: The first is to get a spray. The second is a detergent that can be used in the washing machine.

For spraying, you’ll get a better result by making sure that your jacket is a little damp beforehand, so be sure to put it through a wash cycle first. Then, you can take your spray. Stand back enough away to get a good mist cover, and spray over the whole jacket. Then you can take a cloth to evenly distribute the agent over the fabric.

The second option is a detergent that can be used in your washing machine. Again, read both the instructions on the waterproofing detergent and the care instructions on your jacket (Helly Hansen often has this on the left hip of their jackets). The process is quite simple: The detergent will replace your normal detergent—don’t use both–and, depending on whether you have a top-loading or front-loading washer, try to only wash one or two jackets at a time.

Caution: If you own a top-loading washing machine with an agitator, it’s better to go with the spraying method.

If you’re looking for spray and detergent options, Helly Hansen swears by products from Grangers, and we tend to agree. If you opt for Grangers, they recommend to wash your jacket before applying the repel for the best results.

After reapplying DWR, it’s important to dry your jacket. If you’ve used the spray-on method, you can let the spray air dry and then run it through a drying cycle or dry it immediately if you choose. If you’ve used a detergent, then just take your jacket from the washer and add it to the dryer. Jackets should be dried on a low to medium setting for about 50 minutes, but check the care label of your garment to confirm the best method.

Drying after reapplying DWR is essential. The heat helps reactivate the waterproof properties of the repellent. Don’t forget this crucial step.

Preventing Future Damage

Now that you have a jacket that’s functioning good as new, there are a few basic principles to ensure that it retains its reinvigorated performative qualities. For storing, make sure that you hang up your jacket in a cool, dry place, preferably an uncrowded closet if you can manage it.

Never leave your jackets packed into a pouch or left bunched up in your pack, especially after use, as this can cause mildew or mould to form and ruin the waterproof-breathable properties. It’s also important to know that as the outdoor industry moves away from PFC materials, a little more care is needed. Dirt and contaminates cause wetting out, which weakens the jacket’s performance. If it gets dirty or starts absorbing water, it’s always best to give it a good wash and dry, or reapply a repellent.

FAQ

How do you fix a hole in a shell jacket?

Clean the affected area and remove any loose threads. Avoid machine washing beforehand as this may worsen the tear. Using a patch, cut an appropriate size (leaving at least a 0.5” margin on all sides). Remove the backing sticker and apply the tape over the tear, rip, or hole. Smooth out any bubbles and make sure the edges are flat. Depending on the patch, it may require a heat application or friction to activate the adhesive. It also may need several hours to cure effectively.

How do you fix a ripped wax jacket?

Depending on the rip size, you can opt to use a tape, patch, glue, sewing, or a combination to repair a wax jacket. It’s recommended to adhere a patch from the inside (glue up), then follow up with a glue, stitching, or patch externally to retain the best waterproofing. For more severe tears, refer to the jacket's brand to see if they offer repairs or replacements. Babour offers repairs and re-waxing services for their wax jackets.

Can a ripped puffer jacket be repaired?

Most tears can be repaired with the right tools. Puffer jackets can be repaired with a variety of tapes or repair patches. It’s recommended to patch from the inside of the tear to retain the insulation and have a more invisible patching, or you may also patch both sides of the tear for a higher quality mend. The same repair techniques can also be applied to ski pants to ensure they remain functional in harsh conditions.

How to repair a rip in a waterproof jacket?

Some outdoor shops and brands offer adhesive tapes or repair patch kits that can fix most tears and rips. Always make sure to follow the instructions on the packaging as they can differ depending on the type or brand. The Helly Hansen Fabric Repair Patch Kit is fairly easy to apply and requires only hand friction to adhere it properly.

Final Thoughts

It’s important to keep in perspective that outdoor wear and gear like Helly Hansen’s shells and jackets are designed to withstand weather and the environments we expose them to for years, so on the occasion where your garment suffers a rip or a tear, remember that the functionality of your jacket is still very much present. You can restore a waterproof-breathable jacket in just a few minutes of your time.

If you feel the same, we’d love to hear about your successful repair stories, or share some other tips and tricks to keep our apparel looking and functioning their best and keep them out of our landfills.

Discover why it's changing the game.

The post BOA Technology for Ski Boots: Precision Fit for Maximum Performance appeared first on Altitude Sports.

]]>

When it comes to skiing, the fit of your boots can make or break your performance. A secure, comfortable fit not only enhances control and responsiveness but ensures you stay comfortable all day long. This is where BOA technology comes into play. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, BOA is revolutionizing the way you experience the slopes. Check out the sections below to discover how!

What Is BOA Technology?

BOA technology was first developed in 2001 to replace traditional laces in snowboard boots, offering a faster, more precise way to adjust fit. Since then, BOA has spread across various industries—from footwear to helmets—and is now a popular closure system in high-performance ski boots.

BOA’s system revolves around three key components: a micro-adjustable dial, lightweight laces, and low-friction guides. Unlike traditional buckles or laces, the dial lets skiers fine-tune their fit with ease, even on the go. Simply turn the dial to tighten or loosen the laces in small increments, distributing pressure evenly for maximum comfort and control.

BOA Technology in Ski Boots

It’s thanks to snowboarding boots that BOA technology first gained traction, but its success quickly translated to ski boots too. As skiers demanded more precision and ease of use, BOA became a sought-after feature in modern ski boot designs. By swapping out cumbersome buckles and straps, BOA helped redefine how skiers achieve a secure fit on the slopes.

Today, you’ll find BOA systems featured in various types of ski boots, each catering to different skiing styles. These include:

 • Alpine ski boots: These boots benefit from BOA’s precise, locked-in fit by prioritizing speed and control.
 • Backcountry and touring ski boots: Lightweight yet secure, BOA allows easy adjustments during long ascents or tricky descents.
 • Freeride boots: For those who need quick on-the-fly adjustments, BOA delivers convenience and performance—especially in variable conditions.

It’s also worth noting that BOA systems can be placed in several areas of ski boots to optimise the fit for different skiing styles:

 • Forefoot closure: Ensures a snug fit around the lower part of the foot, reducing heel lift and improving control.
 • Upper cuff adjustment: Provides more flexibility and support around the ankle, ideal for tailored comfort during aggressive skiing.
 • Midfoot adjustment: Focuses on tightening around the arch, adding extra stability and control, like during fast turns.
 • Dual BOA systems: Advanced ski boots often feature two BOA dials—one for the forefoot and another for the upper cuff. This allows independent adjustments for across different sections of the boot.

Benefits of BOA Technology for Ski Boots

Precision Fit

One of the biggest draws of the BOA dial system for ski boots is the ability to fine-tune the fit with micro-adjustments. This precision fit lets skiers adjust the boot to their liking, whether they’re carving on groomed trails or tackling unpredictable terrain. With BOA technology ski boots, skiers enjoy better control and responsiveness.

Performance Boost

A snug, locked-in fit is key to boosting performance, and BOA closure system ski boots deliver exactly that. The micro-adjustable BOA allows for optimal foot retention, enhancing control during fast descents or tight turns. Skiers feel more connected to their boots, resulting in quicker movements and better handling in challenging conditions.

Ease of Use

No need to stop mid-run to adjust cumbersome buckles. With the BOA dial system for ski boots, tightening or loosening your boots is quick and effortless—even with gloves on. This makes BOA ski boots for alpine skiing particularly useful. Whether you’re skiing all day or adjusting to changing snow conditions, BOA lets you make adjustments on the fly without breaking your stride.

Comfort

Unlike traditional buckles that create pressure points, BOA system ski boots ensure uniform pressure distribution to eliminate discomfort. The BOA closure system provides a more even fit, which means no more hotspots or pinching, so you can focus on the slopes rather than your aching feet.

How BOA Technology Improves Ski Boot Customization

Fit Adjustments

BOA technology allows for quick fit adjustments on the go. If your feet swell due to cold temperatures, a simple turn of the dial lets you tighten or loosen the boot without stopping. This flexibility ensures comfort and optimal performance in changing conditions.

Combination with Boot Liners

When paired with heat-moldable liners, BOA provides a snug fit that moulds to your foot’s shape. This combination enhances control and minimizes fatigue, making it easier to navigate any terrain comfortably.

Dual BOA Systems

Some ski boots feature dual BOA systems, allowing independent adjustments for the upper and lower boot zones. This lets you customise the fit based on your skiing style. For example, tightening the lower for control while loosening the upper for mobility.

Durability and Maintenance of BOA Systems

Durability

BOA components are engineered for toughness, designed to endure the rigours of skiing in extreme conditions. This resilience ensures that your BOA system holds up, even in the toughest environments.

Repairability

If the BOA system breaks, replacement parts are readily available, making repairs straightforward. Many brands offer warranties, so check the terms for coverage details.

Maintenance Tips

To extend the life of your BOA system, keep the dial free of snow and debris. Regularly inspect the components to ensure they’re functioning smoothly, helping you enjoy hassle-free days on the slopes.

BOA vs. Traditional Ski Boot Closure Systems

BOA vs. Buckles

Hands-down, the BOA system surpasses traditional buckles in fit and adjustability. With its micro-adjustable dials, you can quickly achieve perfect tightness without removing your gloves. Unlike cumbersome and time-consuming buckles, BOA lets you maintain a secure fit even on intense runs.

BOA vs. Laces

Traditional laces loosen with movement, compromising your fit. In contrast, BOA features durable, tensioned cables that ensure consistent performance. This robust design minimizes slippage and enhances responsiveness, making BOA a reliable choice for aggressive skiing.

What Type of Skier Should Choose BOA?

BOA is perfect for skiers who need quick adjustments and a precise fit—especially in alpine and backcountry settings. If you’re an aggressive skier who values speed and performance, then BOA will deliver the reliability and comfort you need to excel.

Potential Drawbacks of BOA Technology in Ski Boots

Learning Curve

Skiers new to the BOA closure system might experience a learning curve, as the dial mechanism differs from traditional buckles or laces. Getting accustomed to the feel and tightening method can take some time, potentially affecting performance during initial uses.

Cost

BOA-equipped ski boots often come with a higher price tag due to their advanced tech. This can be a significant consideration for budget-conscious skiers who prioritize affordability over innovation.

Preference for Traditional Systems

When it comes to BOA vs. traditional ski boot closures, some skiers remain loyal to traditional closure systems. They find comfort in the familiarity of buckles or laces, and may prefer the tactile feedback and perceived security that these conventional methods offer.

Conclusion

BOA technology revolutionizes ski boots by delivering a precision fit, unparalleled convenience, and improved performance. Ski boots with micro-adjustable BOA dials let you achieve an ideal fit quickly and easily, accommodating changes in foot size.

Performance-focused skiers, backcountry enthusiasts, and even beginners can benefit from BOA-equipped boots. Whether you’re navigating challenging terrain or simply enjoying a day on the slopes, the ability to fine-tune your fit will instantly elevate your skiing experience.

We encourage you to give BOA a try—it’s an absolute game changer! Next up, check out how to choose the best ski boots for your needs.

No matter your body type, finding the perfect fitting ski jacket or pants is often a struggle. Whether you’re searching for the best plus-size ski jackets and pants, or gear tailored for petite or tall skiers, the options for inclusive sizing ski gear are growing.

Why Inclusive Sizing is Important in Ski Apparel

Whether you’re carving through fresh powder or enjoying a mid-run break, skiing demands clothing that keeps up with you. But when so many brands don’t cater to diverse shapes and sizes, this can be next to impossible. That’s where inclusive sizing ski gear comes in.

Comfort and Mobility

The best ski jackets and pants should offer a full range of motion. Ski jackets for tall and petite sizes, as well as options for plus-size skiers, ensure everyone can move freely on the slopes without feeling restricted.

Performance

When your ski gear is too tight or too loose, your performance suffers. Ski clothing for diverse body shapes can be a huge help by both keeping your clothes out of the way, while not restricting your freedom of movement.

Body Positivity

Skiing isn’t just about performance—it’s about feeling good. By offering extended size ski jackets and pants, brands are empowering skiers of all sizes to hit the slopes with confidence.

Key Features to Look for in Ski Jackets and Pants for All Sizes

Adjustable Features

Look for insulated ski pants and jackets with adjustable waistbands, cuffs, and hoods, offering a customizable fit to accommodate your unique body type.

Stretch and Flexibility

Opt for materials that provide stretch and flexibility. This will optimize freedom of movement and comfort during high-output ski sessions.

Insulation and Warmth

Choose ski jackets and pants built to deliver warmth without unnecessary bulk, especially important for plus-size ski pants and jackets.

Waterproofing and Breathability

Keep dry and comfortable in all weather conditions by selecting gear that balances waterproofing with breathability, crucial for a full day on the slopes.

Length Options

Look for ski pants that come in a variety of inseam lengths—whether you’re tall, petite, or anywhere in between. Properly fitted pants ensure max comfort and performance.

FAQ

Q:Should ski jackets be a size larger?

A: Not necessarily, but many skiers prefer the extra room for layering. If you plan on wearing thicker layers (or simply enjoy a looser fit), sizing up will offer more comfort and mobility.

Q: Should ski jackets be tight or loose?

A: They should strike a balance between snug and loose. A properly fitted jacket will allow for full movement without feeling restrictive, while also not being too baggy to let cold air in.

Q: What is the warmest type of ski jacket?

A: Insulated ski jackets with synthetic or down are the warmest. Jackets with thermal-reflective linings or multiple layers of insulation provide awesome heat retention, even in extremely cold conditions.

Q: Is a water-resistant jacket enough for skiing?

A: A water-resistant jacket might handle light snow, but for skiing, especially in wet or stormy conditions, a fully waterproof jacket is a must. Look for ones with legit waterproof ratings, seam sealing, and breathable fabrics.

Conclusion

Finding the best inclusive size ski jackets and pants is crucial for both comfort and performance on the slopes. Whether you’re looking for plus-size ski jackets and pants, or ski jackets for tall and petite sizes, there’s an array of options out there to choose from.

Brands like Helly Hansen, The North Face, and Outdoor Research offer some of the best ski jackets for plus-size women and men, as well as ski pants for tall men and women. With their focus on ski clothing for diverse body shapes, you’re sure to find the best option for you.

Becoming a B Corp Company https://kinsta.altitude-sports.com/en/becoming-a-b-corp-company/ https://kinsta.altitude-sports.com/en/becoming-a-b-corp-company/#respond Mon, 16 Sep 2024 21:06:32 +0000 https://kinsta.altitude-sports.com/?p=135184 Our world is changing, and businesses who are finding ways to balance purpose and profit are key to a sustainable future. B Corps are companies that operate for profit while adhering to rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. We spoke with Catherine Prud’homme, Sr. Director, Marketing and Sustainability, who led the project at Altitude Sports, about the journey.

Altitude Sports is now certified B Corp. What made you decide to follow this route and go through the whole process?

It’s very simple: We wanted to formalize and enhance our environmental initiatives and achievements. It was important to measure our impact before starting new initiatives and focus on our environmental footprint, on the community, and our employees. The B Impact Assessment answered all of our needs. I think going with B Corp was a natural choice. One of our investors, the Business Development Bank of Canada, is B Corp certified and highly recommended it. Of all the certifications we considered, B Corp provided the most comprehensive and detailed framework. With it, I was able to develop a roadmap that positioned us for certification within two years.

Do you absolutely need to have experience in sustainable business practices to start the process?

If you don’t have experience, you definitely need a strong interest and a desire to learn fast. There’s a few courses you can take to help you understand the process of becoming a B Corp. I followed a class with Decade Impact, diving into every area of the B Impact Assessment, which helps understand all the requirements. Afterward, you need solid project management skills to be able to progress with the right information and a realistic timeline. Most importantly, you’ll need the full support of your board and executives to prioritize this project across the company for the years to come.

At Altitude Sports, we’re fortunate to have dedicated team members in every department, which is vital since we likely won’t have a dedicated sustainability team. Instead, we believe sustainability should be part of everyone’s responsibility. It’s essential for every department to be involved and work together towards the same goal: certification and enhancing our responsibility sustainability initiatives. Even at the beginning of this journey, you gain valuable insights into where you stand and whether your previous environmental efforts have truly paid off.

So where did you stand at the beginning of the assessment? What were the first real steps you took?

Our initial assessment with B Lab landed us at a score of 55 out of the 80 minimum needed for B Corp certification. From there, we were able to develop the roadmap. We listed all the initiatives we had to do, added the details, and assigned an owner. A lot of our first steps were about evaluating our environmental impact (water footprint, GHG, waste, etc.), gathering all the information from our suppliers and also listing everything we were already doing in official documents.

Tell us more about the process. What were the challenges or roadblocks you faced during the gathering phase of certification, when working with outside partners, and collecting internal data?

The biggest challenges were budget, time, and getting all the information we needed from our suppliers. First, the financial aspect. We needed to conduct extensive assessments, including our GHG footprint for Scope 1, 2 and 3, water assessment, waste management, and develop our environmental policy, to name a few. These assessments were critical and non-negotiable, but we didn’t have the expertise in-house to carry them out. As a result, we partnered with specialized firms to handle these tasks, which naturally incurred substantial costs. Fortunately, we received funding from Fonds Écoleaders, which helped offset some of these expenses.

Time management was another major challenge. While we outsourced certain assessments, we handled everything else internally, including project management, data gathering, and implementing new practices. Each department had key leaders who were instrumental in supporting this transition. However, balancing this large-scale project with our ongoing priorities was difficult.

As a retailer, we often don’t have direct control over all the necessary information, especially when it comes to data from our suppliers. We sent out surveys to gather the required data from suppliers, but this process wasn’t without its challenges. Some were unsure who, within their organization, should respond to the survey, while others faced delays because it was their first time handling such requests. This lack of familiarity and internal coordination made it difficult and time-consuming to obtain the information we needed. Overall, we were able to navigate these roadblocks through strategic partnerships and strong internal collaboration.

How long did it take from start to finish, when you finally received word that Altitude Sports was officially certified?

Two years. Our ESG roadmap was approved by the board in 2022 and we’re officially certified as of July 10, 2024.

What part of this journey are you particularly proud of?

Publishing our first Impact Report at the end of the 2023 year was a big step and very much part of the process. B Corp requires gathering a bunch of important information, and the Impact Report allowed us to present this data into a digestible format for public readers. It also contains some of our objectives, which hold us accountable to achieve them since it’s published. Plus, it forces us to have an open dialogue internally—and externally—about our commitments.

Any other advice for a company who wants to become B Corp certified?

An advice I’ve received that really resonated was, “start before you’re ready.” You won’t have all the answers at first, but as you progress, the path will be clearer and clearer. Don’t be afraid to ask your suppliers and partners questions; B Corp has a lot of resources, and they have a vibrant network of enthusiastic companies. Start a framework, and eventually it’ll grow. And I promise it gets easier along the way.

Don’t seek out B Corp just for the certification. It must be a core part of your company’s values and something that resonates with every stakeholder. You’ll need to have a board of directors and investors that support you in this process. Make sure to include this process in your annual budget, since you’ll need external support. You should create a team that will be responsible for shepherding the project with a dedicated leader that can support a company-wide project. Also, make sure to have an executive sponsor who can provide support along the wayspecial thanks to Alexandre Guimond, co-CEO, for fulfilling that role in our process.

Altitude Sports has attained the B Corp certification and has to hold onto it. How are you looking to progress, not just for the sake of ranking higher in our triennial assessment, but in other ways?

That’s a good way to formulate the question, because we have to continue to progress. B Corp is not just something you achieve and then you forget about it. We have committed to clear objectives on different levels of the business and we plan on doing everything in our power to achieve them. Specifically for B Corp, we will have a recertification in July 2027, for example.

Among other objectives, we’re also aiming for 20% of deliveries to be made with 100% electric vehicles, and 35% of deliveries to include a last-mile delivery with an electric vehicle. We seek to donate a minimum of $150,000 to our three non-profits through our biannual Alti Action program, that we’ve been organizing since 2017. This year, we’re introducing a new Volunteer program for our employees, which highlights our commitment to making a positive impact on our community and the environment. So for us, the important thing will be to strive in that direction and never forget that we can always, always improve.
