The Kestrel 48-litre backpack is designed to haul heavy loads from the campgrounds of the Grand Canyon to the mountains overlooking the St. Lawrence. It has Osprey’s innovative 3.5mm LightWire™ frame that transfers weight to its comfortable spacer mesh harness and hipbelt, ensuring carrying comfort. The ventilating Airscape™ mesh backpanel helps this pack perform admirably in warm conditions. On top of its multiple pockets, this backpack features a wide-mouth access sleeping bag compartment with a divider, and comes with removable sleeping pad straps, making it overnight functional. It can also be cinched down with the StraightJacket™ side compression straps when the load is lighter and more streamlined performance is required.

Osprey outfitted the Kestrel 48 with a top-loading main compartment that can also be accessed through a side zipper. The pack also has top-lid and under-the-lid pockets, side and front stretch mesh pockets, and zippered hipbelt pockets for essential items. Dual front daisy chains and web attachments on the top lid serve as anchoring points, while the adjustable sleeping pad straps can haul extra gear. Osprey furnished this pack with their Stow-on-the-Go™ trekking pole attachments along with tuck-away ice tool loops.
