Review of The August

I purchased The August model over a year ago and find myself satisfied overall. the 'cons' are a matter of taste).
PROS:
- sapphire crystal (provides a lovely distorted view of the dial when viewed from an angle)
- Swiss quartz movement
- high water resistance
- attractive bauhaus-inspired design
-quality stainless steel case construction
- second clock sub-dial that allows you to track a second timezone
- slim case allows the watch to slide easily under the cuff of a dress shirt
- the people who run the operation are friendly and promptly and enthusiastically answered my questions prior to my purchase
CONS:
- you get two leather straps with the watch, but both are low quality (it's clear this is where costs were cut to provide the watch specs listed above)
- while the dial is attractive, I find the font used for the printed-on Arabic numerals to be somewhat boring (would have been nice if stylized, perhaps slightly italicized, font was used, or if the numbers were replaced with extended lines as hour markers)
- lack of texture on the sub-dial to differentiate it from the main dial
- lack of quick-release tabs for easy strap replacement
- the thin, stick-design hour and minute hands are similar in appearance to the second hand, making it difficult to distinguish the minute hand from the second hand at a glance
- watch snobs might take issue with a quartz movement (this isn't an issue for me)
- Price is high for a quartz watch from an unknown brand.
These quibbles aside, and if the price tag doesn't scare you, the Inland watch, on balance, is a quality under-the-radar product worthy of your consideration. It's a much better choice than something like a Daniel Wellington, which is similar in design. Read Less
