If you’re a runner, you know that comfort and performance are a must. Whether you’re embarking on a quick lunch break run or you’re spending Saturday afternoon racing atop mountain peaks, the length and enjoyability of your run will depend on your feet.
There are a variety of trail running shoes on the market available in different styles, weights, and drops that cater to a broad market of runners. Arc’teryx wanted to create something a little different, so they tapped into a different niche by focusing on long distance running shoes, hence the LD acronym in the name. The Norvan LD design was focused on improving your comfort during an extended time on the trail, allowing you to run further and experience less foot fatigue. It was also recently awarded “Editor’s Choice” in the June issue of Trail Runner magazine.
What is the Difference Between the Norvan VT and the Norvan LD?
Arc’teryx first entered the world of running with their Norvan VT model. It’s a trail running shoe that’s both sleek and elegant, showcasing the brands’ innovation and renowned attention to detail. Available in both a regular model and GTX model for those wet and soggy trails, the Norvan VT is immensely popular among diehard trail runners. Enter the Norvan LD, which has sprung onto the market, and all of a sudden Arc’teryx has a small but well-reviewed running lineup within their growing footwear collection.

Upon first glance, the Norvan VT and LD look quite similar. The main difference between the two models is that Arc’teryx crafted the LD for long distance. The Norvan LD is built with a long-wearing EVA/Polyolefin midsole, which reduces footstrike impact and enhances your comfort over longer distances.
Utilizing a similar design as the VT, the Norvan LD also boasts a 9mm heel drop, a 4mm thick Ortholite™ 3D molded insert, and has grippy 3.5mm lugs on the sole. The lugs are square-shaped and arranged in an ergonomic pattern to assure traction over diverse kinds of terrains.
A prominent feature on the Norvan VT that the LD is without is the adjustable 360° support system. The “VT” in Norvan VT stands for varied terrain, and the 360° support system allows for quick and easy lace tightening for short scrambles and steeper climbs. Because the Norvan LD was created for long-distance running, this feature wasn’t included in its design.
Why Choose the Norvan LD?
As a runner, you’re spending countless kilometers on your feet, so opting for a shoe that focuses on comfort is a must. The Norvan LD offers the right amount of support while still maintaining a lightweight design. With comfort at the forefront, the Norvan LD also features GORE® Invisible Fit technology. This technology eliminates excessive seems and folds that can cause hot spots and unwanted rubbing, which result in blisters and other aches.

The upper part of the Norvan LD is crafted with breathable material that allows moisture vapour to escape, stopping your foot from getting clammy and wet. This breathable material also helps regulate your foot temperature, which ultimately prevents discomfort over long distances.
